I, Harnam Singh S/o Jiwan Singh, aged 54 years r/o WZ/315, Palam Colony, Sadh Nagar, Gali No.8, New Delhi, do hereby solemnly affirm and state of oath as under: 1. That since 1960 I have been living at the above said address and carrying on cloth business. I had a large family consisting of about 20 people including children and grand children. I had built a double storey house on my plot. I also owned a shop in the market and it had goods worth 4 lakhs. 2. That we came to know about the riots on 1st Nov. 84 when we were attending our prayer in the Gurdwara. I have been General Secretary of the Gurdwara and as such I had announced after the morning prayers that due to the unfortunate assassination of the Prime Minister (late Mrs. Gandhi) we should observe the mourning day and keep indoors with our family members and observe a closed day. I have been an activist worker of the Congress Party for the last about 25 years and we had always honoured the Congress dignitaries on all our social and religious functions. 3. That when we were taking our breakfast we had heard noise of miscreants and about 9 AM our Gurdwara was looted and burnt by them. We could not go to Gurdwara as it was not safe to move out since the whole colony was full of goondas. From Gurdwara the mob came to our shop which is located very close to the police post. Section-144 had been imposed and police was moving out. Police did not stop the miscreants, rather they encouraged them to loot and burn Sikh shops. My daughter asked the policemen to prevent the miscreants from looting, but they said that since sardars had killed the Prime Minister, the sardars would not be spared. This looting continued up till 3 PM and then our shop was set on fire. Some other shops belonging to sardars were also looted and burnt. 4. That in the night at about 10 PM the mob again came to our house. They pelted stones on us. Then we left the house and hid ourselves in the neighbour’s house. S. Pritam Singh Sewak, who was our neighbour in the back side, suffered very heavily. He was killed after severe beating. His three members including himself, his wife and son aged 20 years, were burnt alive. Besides them, their tenants, both husband and wife were also burnt alongwith S. Pritam Singh. 5. That the mob was carrying lathis, iron bars, chemicals and kerosene oil. The mob was led by Balwan Singh Khokhar – a Congress Leader. He resides at Raj Nagar. I also saw Radhey Shyam Pandit, Jaswant Singh Singal of Sadh Nagar (both of Sadh Nagar) who took active part in looting and burning. Risal Singh and Mohan Singh, two active Congressmen had looted my shop and later on a report lodged by me Police got goods recovered, but they were not returned to me. Our neighbours namely Amin Chand, Harpal Singh and Jagdish Bania also jointed the mob in looting. 6. On that day we went to Sardar Gurdwara Camp in military bus. FIR was lodged with SHO Delhi Cantt on 7.11.1984 separately for the shop. |
