I, Balwant Singh S/o S. Siba Singh, aged 39 years, r/o 26/1, Colony No.19, Poultry Farm, Delhi Cantt. – at present residing in Tent No.26, Hari Nagar Camp, solemnly affirm and declare as under: - 1. I am employed as a Chowkidar in the B.S.O. office, G.E. East N.E.S. Delhi Cantt. 2. On 31-10-84 I came to know in the office itself about the attack made on Smt. Indira Gandhi. I went home at about 1:00 PM on my cycle. On the way there was no trouble. There was no trouble in the night in our colony. 3. On 1-11-84 at about 7:30 AM, I was sitting with my son Kanwal aged about 17 years within the boundry of our house and taking tea. We saw that two men passed in front of our gate. They were loudly talking as if to make us hear. They were saying “Sardar Sub Gaddar Hotey Hain, Kisi Ko Nahin Chhorna Chahea” (All Sardars are traitors. None should be spared). They passed away abusing Sardars. I and my son went inside our house. 4. At about 10:00 AM, a mob consisting of about one thousand men came from behind our house. Those persons were carrying lathis and iron rods. One person was having a can of kerosene oil. They were shouting slogans “Indira Gandhi Amar Rahe. Sikh Gadaron Ko Mardeo.” (Indira Gandhi is immortal, Kill the Sikh traitors). Immediately on arrival they started stoning us. 5. I saw that amongst them 10 – 12 men were those whom we do recognize. Among them was Jagdish Mittal, one Amit S/o Sharma. They were telling the people to burn the houses of Sikhs and kill them. Amongst them were also Sulendar Puri, Joginder Puri and Kanwal’s son Bhim etc. These persons were inciting people of the mob and were themselves also destroying the things. 6. I was terrified by the stoning by the mob. During the period, my son went to my neighbour’s house. Thereafter, when I saw the mob had become more excited, I also ran to my neighbour’s house and joined my son. When the stone-throwing by the mob became further intensified, we left that place and escaped to the jungle to save our lives. We were also injured by the stone-throwing of the mob. Thus, we escaped and reached a flat of the Army Colony where Tarsem Singh was residing. We took refuge there. 7. My wife was left alone at our house. According to her statement our house was looted and the luggage which could not be lifted was taken out and burnt by the mob. 8. When the mob attacked our house I did not see any policeman there, nor had any policeman helped us. 9. From 1st to 4th November, 1984, we remained at the residence of Subedar Tarsem Singh, who was also threatened. The atmosphere was very bad. We could not go to the police and report the matter. As our house was burnt my wife had also come to me in the Army Colony. 10. On 4-11-84 I went to Gurdwara Sadar Cantt. where relief camp was organized. Two men had accompanied us to leave us at the camp. 11. About two months later, I shifted to Hari Nagar Camp with my family members and I am still there. 12. On 6-11-84, I lodged a report in the Sadar Cantt. Police Station, but no action was taken. 13. I have now come to know that policemen go to my house in my absence. I go to my house very seldom because I do not like to go as my whole house has been looted. In this way my loss is of about Rs.70,000/-. 14. Those who had looted my house also include some of the employees of my office. I feel afraid of them. My office people also threaten me often. They are spoiling my records and turn my presence into absence in my office and are harassing me very much. |
