On Nov.1, 1984 as usual, I had gone to Patel Nagar on my work that suddenly a mob started beating us. They were going to set us on fire that SHO Amrit Singh came there and saved us. From there I came to Nangloi in an auto-rickshaw. It was about 10 a.m. greatly afraid, I reached my house via the railway line and deserted places. There I cautioned everybody. By that time nothing untoward had happened there. 3. In the evening at about 7 – 8 p.m., a mob comprising of thousands of persons came shouting slogans “Khoon Ka Badla Khoon” came. At first they went to my father’s house. They were having lathis, spears, wooden planks, swords etc. in their hands. They used to loot and plunder and ignite fire with some kind of white powder. On seeing this, out of fear, I, alongwith my family, went to the house of Vir Singh who is a Jaat and we remained there for the whole night. I saw that those persons wandered in our streets for the whole night. They had broken the light connections in our houses and it became dark all around. 4. The mob was being led by Rattan who lives in F-7 Jhuggi Chattar Singh and his son Jaipal was also with him. Another person whom I recognized was Dharma Singh. I witnessed the entire incident from the window of Veer Singh. 5. We had come to know about the meeting which was held in the house of Chattar Singh on November 1. Till now we had not taken any step to protect ourselves. After killing my father Shobha Singh and burning the house, they burnt the Gurdwara also. My mother Jatin Kaur who being old in age could not run was also burnt. I had recently returned from Dubai and I had a cash amount of Rs.12000 in the house which was looted. Rattan Lal who resides in F-7 Jhuggies had led the mob. All of them were raising slogans. Some had a kind of white powder filled in bottles which ignited fire when thrown. I can recognize all those whom I had seen. 6. On the first night we remained in the house of Veer Singh but early next day we went to Block E-6. A Camp was installed there and the police brought the survivors to the camp. There social workers of Mother Teressa’s peace corps and Nagrik Ekta Manch greatly helped us. 7. From camp we returned to our house. But even now those Jhuggies dwellers who participated in the riots threaten and abuse us. . |
