I, Jatan Kaur, W/o Late Mistri Singh, aged 55 years, r/o A-4/141, Sultanpuri, New Delhi, do hereby solemnly affirm and state on oath as under: - 1. On 1-11-1984 at about 9 AM, I saw some people holding a meeting in B-2 Park where half the area was cordoned off by means of a screen but there was no cover overhead. I had gone there to look for my son. I saw Sajjan Kumar – M.P., who was wearing the usual dress of a “Neta” – white “Kurta” and “Pajama” and addressing the people gathered there. I heard him tell the audience which included the local people also. “The Sardars have killed our Indira Gandhi. You should now kill, loot and burn them. (Sadaron ne hamari Indira Gandhi mari hai, ab Sardaro ko maro, looto aur ag laga do)”. Hearing this, I hurried back hom and told my husband what I had heard. He was very much upset and we all went inside our house and waited in fear. 2. At about 3 PM, on the same day (1-11-84) we learnt that the Colony Gurdwara had been set on fire. Hearing this we went out and at that time we saw Bhatti Sahib of police and his Havaldar Jai Chand had come there. They told us all Sardar to get inside our houses, otherwise they would shoot us. Hearing this threat we all went inside our houses. Outside we could bear shots being fired. Ours is a corner house and we could see what was happening outside. We saw Sital Singh struck by a bullet. 3. We spent the whole night of 1-11-84 / 2-11-84, taking shelter inside our house. At about 7 AM on 2-11-84, a big mob of rioters came and attacked us. I could recognize the killers who were: - a. Udhal – who had a gun in his hand. b. Brahm Nath Gupta– of kerosene oil depot. c. Chauhan Brothers– (two of them) who live in A-4 Block. d. Nathu Pradhan– Bhangi (sweeper) Bharti Neta. e. M. Chan and his sons Satbir (Hotelwala). f. Dr. Ganga Rati. The above attackers had iron rods, sticks, trisuls and a double barrel gun. 4. My husband, my son and my nephew were dragged out of our house. Chauhan Poorbia struck my husband with a heavy iron rod. I folded my handed and entreated him but no use. My daughter Romesh Kaur fell on my husband to protect him; she was also hit on her nose with the iron rod. Chuan also killed my son Nathu Pradhan, Chauhan’s brother and Udhal killed my nephew and Sardarji (my husband). Then Brahma Nand Gupta poured kerosene oil and set fire to the bodies. Then they proceeded to loot our house and subsequently burnt and drove us out. We then went to D-7 Block and we were finally rescued by the army on 3-11-84. |
