Affidavit submitted before Misra Commission

      Affidavit of Smt. Durjan wife of S. Dalip Singh, aged 40 years, resident of A-2/442, Sultanpuri, Delhi.

            I solemnly affirm and declare as under: -

1.                  That on 31-10-84 when, in the evening, we came to know that our leader Smt. Indira Gandhi has been assassinated, we sat in a deep sense of sorrow. We did not even lit kitchen fire. We have always been putting out seal on the symbol ‘Punja.’

2.                  That on 1-11-84, at about 3 PM, when we were witnessing the TV program in connection with Indiraji. We heard a loud noise and somebody told us that the Sikhs were being killed and their houses were being burnt. By then, we could see the fires and smoke.

3.                  That because of the fear that if we go out we will be killed, the entire family including my husband, my daughter, Suneeta, aged 12 years, son Azad Singh, aged 14 years and Ajay Singh, aged 10 years, kept ourselves hidden inside the house.

4.                  That on 2-11-84, at about 7 AM a mob of 2000 / 2500 strong, equipped with iron rods, gandasas, trishuls etc. entered out street and Shakti Jamadar and his Jamadar brother Ashok and Jille dragged my husband, who had hid himself in the house outside. First of all, Ashok gave a lathi blow to my husband and said that the enemies of Congress (I) should be finished. This time, Jille had a Gandasas in his hand and attacked my husband with that weapon. One person, by name Shakti, attacked with trishuls. These three persons are still living in Sultanpuri. Raju Jagdish and Khatrakh, who had lathis in their hands, joined them in this attack and killed my husband. Shakti asked the mob at the top of his voice to loot the house of snakes whereupon our house hold effects were looted.

5.                  That this incident was witnessed by my children, Suneeta, Ajay Singh, Azad Singh and Jit Kaur wife of Sangat Singh. The same mob, under their leadership attacked the other houses in the locality, in which Sangat Singh, Pardeep Singh, Paltu Singh, Inder Singh, Prabhu Singh etc. were killed in the same manner, in my presence, and their houses were looted and burnt. This loot and killing lasted for three hours.

6.                  That on 2-11-84, at about 12 Noon, one policeman Rajinder brought a tempo and took away the dead bodies.

7.                  That the police never came for our help. On 3-11-84, at about 5 pm CRPF personnel evacuated us. In the first instance they brought us in the camp near Sultanpuri Police Station and thereafter brought us in the Shakarpur Camp.

8.                  That when after ten days I lodged a report in the Sultanpuri Police Station, I was told by the Sub-Inspector to give details of loss of life and property only and the remaining statement will be recorded later on.
