Affidavit submitted before Misra Commission

         I, Dhoban Kaur, R/o A4-175, Sultanpuri, W/o Ishwar Singh, aged 30 years, solemnly affirm as follows: -

1.                  I have been staying here before 1st November and after that date also I have been staying here. In my house there were my husband, two sons and one daughter. My husband works in Abu Dhabi and my older son was killed in the riots. He used to work in the iron trade. I used to stay at home.

2.                  On 1st November, 1984, we were watching television. About 3 PM, we heard the voices of people outside and we saw that there were about two or three thousand people outside. There were Hindus, Muslims and Bhangis in the mob. First some people attacked the Gurdwara. At that time we were at home. Some people came into the lane. About 100 – 200 people entered my house. Nathu Pradhan was at their head, Udhal, Ganpat, Hariom, Brahmanand Gupta and his brother Jaibhagwan were also there. Dr. Gangaram, Dr. Chhanga, Salam, Satvir, Aami, Sheeshram, one tailor master (stays in A-3), Peeriya, Mangaliya, Macheriya, Islam, Jai Bahgwan, Verma Ji, Ram Charan Dhobi, Ramu, Chauhan Singh etc. were there.

3.                  Alongwith them, Jaichand, who is in the police, himself fired upon people and he was instigating the rioters. SHO Sultanpuri Bhatti was also there. All the people belonged to the neighbourhood. We realized that we are about to be attacked. Then we shut the door and sat inside. People forced the door by breaking it and came inside. Someone took me by the arm and turned me out. My son was inside and the entire mob fell upon him. My five brothers and my father, were with him also. They were all killed and no one stopped them. The police was with the rioters. The Gurdwara in A-4 was attacked first.

4.                  At about 2 or 3 PM on 1st November, about 2000 people came before our house. They broke down the door and entered the house. Some people had sticks and rods and some had pistols. Some people pressed a pistol against my chest and threatened to shoot me if I did not go out. I went and stood outside. Someone was holding me. My son was attacked with a stick and then he was burnt alive. My brother-in-law (Ram Singh) was also killed and taken out of the house and burnt. My father (Ali Khan), brothers Rajan Singh (27), Bhajan Singh (30), Mulhtiyar Singh (25) and Kaptain Singh (17) were also beaten and then burnt alive. Some people looted my house. They broke two fingers of my mother’s hand because she was trying to save her children by falling upon them. I was also attacked with a stick.

5.                  The half burnt bodies were put into gunny sacks by Hanuman and taken away in a tempo. The left over sacks were lying at my house. The sacks were obtained by Hanuman from the ration man.

6.                  The kerosene for burning was brought by the people. It was supplied by Gupta.

7.                  My mother, sister-in-law, daughter-in-law and I went to our relatives in D-Block. Our neighbours and the police did not help us. On 2nd November the military brought us to the Baraat Ghar (Shakur Basti). Then at 2 PM, we were brought to Rani Bagh Camp.
