Affidavit submitted before Misra Commission

            I, Barfi Kaur wife of Lake Singh aged 40 years resident of E-4/48, Sultanpuri, Delhi do hereby solemnly state on oath that: -

1.                  On Nov.1, 1984, we were in a very sad mood after the death of our Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. A mob came towards our side at about 6 or 7 P.M. They had lathis, sticks, iron chisels, iron rods and some kind of powder which was highly inflammable. The mob was being led by Rattan Lal who resides in Block-F. When these people came, the electricity was cut off and our entire block got covered with darkness. At the first instance they set fire to the house of our President Shobha Singh and then set the Gurdwara on fire after damaging it. Then they preceded to the house of Bindu Kaur in F-4. By this time they had spread out in the street. Their slogan was, “Indira Gandhi Ki Jai”, “Khoon Ka Badla Khoon”. They were burning after looting the houses. All the men there ran for their lives. Those who were caught were killed. We, all women, were watching the destruction of our houses from the neighbours house where we had hid ourselves.

2.                  My husband Shri Lake Singh who as usual had gone to his work, and not returned by then. They hit us also by lathis. They looted our entire household effects. My articles worth Rs.25000/- gold and silver jewellery, clothing etc. were all looted. My servant also got killed.

3.                  On the first night we stayed in the neighbour’s house. Next day we went to E-Block where we had assembled. Then we went to the Camp. The social workers of Mother Teressa and Nagrik Ekta Manch and even now sometimes the jhuggi dwellers threaten us.
