I, Pritam Singh S/o S. Kartar Singh aged 52 years R/o 6/10 Nehru Nagar, New Delhi, a driver at Santokh Taxi Stand, N-Block, Greater Kailash, do hereby solemnly affirm and state as under: -

1.                  On 1st November, 1984, in the morning, we heard that Gurdwaras in various areas were being burnt and the precious possessions inside
Gurdwaras’ were being looted.  I alongwith some other residents went to the Gurdwara.  Till 3 PM we were inside the Gurdwara when we returned to our houses, a large mob came and attacked the Gurdwara.  They were shouting “Khoon Ka Badla Khoon” and many abusive slogans against Sikhs were heard.  They threw stones, bricks etc. and broke the glass windows, ventilators. Then they attacked the Granthi Kuljit Singh.  He was seriously hurt and then the mob cut his thumb.  He was virtually taken for dead.  Then the angry and wild mob attacked the five quarters of the Gurdwara, looted all the valuables and cash and even ornaments and then set fire to the quarters, cars, scooters and the building.  They destroyed each and every thing.  They looted the cash box of the Gurdwara Sahib, destroyed the holy scriptures and carpets, fans, beds and took away most of the things in the trucks, which were parked outside.  The whole building was converted into virtual wreck and ruin.  Those who tried to resist were severely beaten. The mob was armed with Iron rods, lathies small things of oil and fire arms.  When they had gone with the cash, cloths, beds and valuables, the residents of the colony gathered and joined hands to bring the fire under control.  The policemen on duty were simply watching and the Gurdwara was being burnt.

2.                  We reported the matter to the Police Station Srinivaspuri, but no action was taken.  Not any financial help was extended to the Singh Sabha and no culprit was apprehended. The total loss was estimated about Rs.1 lakh leaving aside the damage done to the residential quarters and vehicles.  Detailed report in the FIR was submitted to the Government for necessary action.
