Affidavit of Narinder Singh son of S. Makhan Singh, aged 42 years, resident of 167, Jeewan Nagar, Bala Sahib Road, New Delhi-14. I, the deponent above named do hereby solemnly state on oath as under: - On 1-11-84 at about 9 AM, I heard lot of commotion at Sunlight Colony towards the chowk. I came out of my house and I saw from the Bala Sahib Road that Balbir Singh who is residing in the adjoining house was standing on the roof of his house. He told me that there is a mob comprising of numerous person and many buses are parked at the crossing. In the meantime slogans were heard, “Kill Sikhs & Loot”. The mob came near the Mandir. The mob was being led by Sharma Naresh and Jogesh both of Ganga Niwas and Naresh Jain and Suresh Jain both of the shop adjoining. In the meantime, three Sikh boys came on the road from the Coal depot and started running towards Gurdwara Bala Sahib. Sharma and Jain shouted to nab them. They caught hold of two boys. The third boy, who had something in his hand, was hit by lathis and iron rods and he fell down. Jain asked the mob that the two boys who were caught be taken inside the Mandir. In the meantime, the mob proceeded ahead and on seeing the mob, I came to the main gate of my house. When the mob reached near Fancy Tailor Balbir Singh’s house, Sharma and Jain incited the mob to loot the shop Fancy Tailors and the house of S. Balbir Singh. The mob immediately broke open the shutter and gate and after looting the shop and the house, set the shop on fire. I closed the gate and doors of my house and I heard Jain asking the mob to burn the tempo as it belonged to a Sardar. My tempo was set on fire and greatly frightened I asked my children to go to the house of some other person through the back lane. We all went to the house of a neighbour. The mob had looted my house after breaking open the door. We remained in the neighbour’s house for the whole day and night. Yogesh Sharma announced over the loud speaker that first they should go and finish Sikhs in the Ashram. He also announced that Sardars have poisoned the water. On 2-11-84 at 8 AM, Sharma again announced through the loudspeaker to loot the houses of Sikhs and kill them. In the meantime, there was lot of commotion inside the house of Avtar Singh. In the meantime, when the mob came towards the street, many persons of the street collected there and asked the mob not to set the houses on fire as their houses will also get burnt. They made the mob leave that street. We came out in the evening and asked the military men to escort us to Gurdwara Bala Sahib and they took us there. Then on 4-11-84, when we, alongwith military, came to our house to fetch clothes, we found that the tempo had been burnt and our house looted. We took alongwith us few clothes that were saved and came to the Gurdwara Camp. . |
