Affidavit submitted before Misra Commission |

I, Jagjit Singh S/o S. Inder Singh, aged 45 yrs., R/o A-70, Tagore Garden Extn., New Delhi, do hereby solemnly affirm and declare on oath as under: - 1. That on 2nd November 1984, at about 6 P.M., we were watching television at my residence, when I heard loud noise outside my house. I saw a mob throwing bricks and stone towards Gurdwara which is situated in front of Sweeper Colony (Double Storey Qtrs.). I also saw many sweeper throwing bricks and burning objects (cloth dipped in kerosene and wrapped on wooden stick) from the roof of their houses. In the meantime immediately police force came and started abusing the residents and tried to push them into their houses. 2. That just at that time P.N. Arora, SHO, P.S. Rajouri Garden jumped into my compound and caught me. He dragged me out to the road and handed over me to S.I. Bhadur Singh who was there alongwith many policemen. Arora shouted “shoot him” Sikhs have created nonsense in country. On hearing this, policemen started beating me with ‘lathis’. The marks of injury are still visible on my leg. Then they physically lifted me and threw into waiting police van. With in half hour these policemen rounded up eight more young Sikh boys of the colony and also threw them into the same van. After that they took us to Moti Nagar P.S. and then lock up in police lock up. 3. They challaned all of us under section 147, 148, 149, 186, 353, 436 read with S. 34 of the Indian Penal Code. On 3rd November 1984, in the evening the police produced all of us in the court and then confined us in the Tihar Central Jail. 4. I was with great difficulty able to procure bail orders on 12-11-85. |
