Affidavit submitted before Misra Commission

Affidavit of Shri Gurmukh Singh son of S. Narain Singh, aged 60 years, resident of B-48/49, Vatika Rohini, Mangolpuri Khurd, Delhi. I do hereby solemnly affirm and state as under: -

When Shrimati Indira Gandhi was murdered, then on 1-11-84, at about 11 AM, the mob had burnt by house, including all the luggage and scooter (two-wheeler). When we were sitting in our house, we heard from outside shouts saying Indira Gandhi Zindabad. However, we came to know from our neighbours : that the mob had been slaughtering the Sikh community. We ran on to the roof top and jumped over to the house of our neighbour who were Hindus. They helped us. Then a big mob came there and set our house on fire. While hiding ourselves in the house of our neighbours, we saw all this. At first the mob looted our house and then set the same on fire. At 2 AM, a second attack was made by 12 persons to kill us. They wre saying that they had come to rescue us and that we should come out. The neighbours told them that Sardars (Sikhs) had been killed. On 3-11-84, military came to take us from the house of our neighbours. We stayed in the camp at Punjabi Bagh, Basti Camp.

On 2-11-84, the mob again came there and the said mob was being led by Bhool and Ram Chander. They were accompanied by 30 – 40 persons in a truck. They took our cloth worth about 9 lakhs of rupees. We lodged a report at the police station. The police took no action. When the military came there we narrated all the facts in details to them. Search was made at the house of Bhool etc. and 40 Gathas (bundles of cloth) were found from their house. That cloth was taken to the police station. The company to whom it belonged took away that cloth. The truck was set on fire by Bhool Ram Chander Singh in front of his house.

The police had arrested thn persons and after keeping them in custody for three days the police set them free. Those persons boasted, “What have you been able to achieve? We paid Rs.40 thousands to the police and have come back.” The truck Nos. were DEG-5760 and DEG-2874. We have been put to a loss of rupees five lakhs.
