Affidavit submitted before Misra Commission

I, Saranjit Kaur Wd/o S. Kulwant Singh, aged 27 yrs., R/o 68-A, Hari Nagar, Ashram, New Delhi, Now R/o F-178/B, Vishnu Garden, New Delhi, do hereby solemnly affirm and declare as under: -2

  1. That I was residing with my family members consisting of my husband, S. Kulwant Singh, his younger brothers Jagtar Singh and Gurmeet Singh and my father-in-law, S. Hajara Singh. Our family was doing business in electrical goods and were income tax payee.
  2. That on 31-10-84, when we heard the death of our Prime Minister, my family members came early to the house after closing the shop as a mark of respect of the departed soul of Smt. Indira Gandhi. Our family was plunged in grief and we did not feel like taking our food on the night of 31-10-84. Our family was permanent Congress voters and supporters.
  3. That on 1-11-84, in the morning a mob consisting of Mr. Karan, R/o A-67, Hari Nagar Ashram, his sons Man Singh, Ram Singh, Ramesh and Subhash and Sarni alias Lala Sarni Chakiwala, R/o Hari Nagar Ashram and his two sons, whom I can identify, Deep Chand, R/o A-79, Hari Nagar Ashram and Kanwar Jain, A-Block 97-99, Subzi Mandi, Hari Nagar Ashram, New Delhi, came to our house and after breaking open the main gate, pushed out our car and set it on fire. They also looted movables from our house.
  4. We were totally unarmed and so we had taken shelter in inner room of the house. The aforesaid persons were armed with iron rods, lathis and other weapons and they had posted a picket outside our house so that we may not escape. They were raising slogans, “Kill Sikhs and loot their houses and burn them.”
  5. After sometime, police came and in the said police vehicle, SHO, Police Station, Sunlight Colony, Hari Nagar Ashram, New Delhi with two police officers came there and they were in uniform and they had a conversation with the aforesaid persons and shook hand with them and they all jointly raised a slogan “Khoon Ka Badla Khoon.”
  6. On the night of 1st November`84, the aforesaid persons attacked our house from the rear and looted our house and set on fire our motorcycle.
  7. The aforesaid persons, with the help of mob, put kerosene oil through ventilator where my family was taking shelter and they also poured some chemical and the moment it was thrown inside, the room was set ablaze. The inmates, in order to escape from the burning inferno came out of their hiding. The moment they came out, they were attacked with iron rods and all the family members were mercilessly beaten up and after making a heap of the injured male members, they doused them with kerosene oil and then set them on fire. The aforesaid persons with the mob started dancing to celebrate the bonfire.
  8. The mob with the aforesaid persons, after looting our house, set it on fire and we took refuge in a toilet. The mob did not know that we were in the toilet and we were safe. On 2nd November`84, I alongwith my minor children escaped from the toilet where I was hiding and took refuge at my relatives house at F-17, Vishnu Garden, New Delhi. No adult male member of my family has been left alive. On 5th November,`84, I was shifted to a Refugee Camp at Gurdwara Bala Sahib.
  9. That the police deliberately did not stop the mob from plundering, looting and killing our adult male members.
