Affidavit of Gopal Singh S/o S. Khem Singh aged 70 years, resident of R-24, Partap Market, Bhogal, New Delhi. I, above mentioned Gopal Singh solemnly affirm as under:- On 1st November we were sitting in our house behind closed door. Our two vehicles DHC 4364 and DEG 1656 were parked outside our house. At about 8. A.M. people began assembling on the bridge and they began to burn the vehicles at about 8.30 a.m. I saw a big mob coming at about 11 a.m. They were carrying sticks, iron rods and cans in their hands. The mob was being led by the Congress leaders of our area, Hari and Prithi, whom I can identify. Sat Pal Anand, a taxi driver of the area was with them. They told the mob to burn all the vehicles that carried the pictures of Gurus or have something written in Punjabi but spare those having pictures of Mata or have something written in Hindi. Our both vehicles were damaged with iron rods and then burnt by sprinkling petrol. From windows covered with curtains, we were peeping out by uncovering the curtains, we saw people throwing stones from the bridge and breaking the doors. Our neighbour, Mr. Malhotra and another gentleman gave us shelter in their houses. When their houses began to be searched in order to find us (the Sikhs) they sent us to the houses of their other friends. After two days army came which controlled the area and only then we could come out, otherwise we would have been killed. |
