Affidavit submitted before Misra Commission

Affidavit of S. Sardar Singh S/o Bhai Mukand Lal, R/o A-1/21, Safdarjang Enclave, New Delhi-110029.

I, the above named deponent do hereby solemnly affirm and state as under: -

1.                  On 1st November, 1984 at about 4.00 PM. I received telephone call from one of my relatives that a huge crowd of people is coming towards your house and are burning and looting house on their way to us. As a precautionary measure we locked all our outside doors and the two main gates and sat inside.

2.                  At about 5.00 a crowd of about 250 to 300 people came lead by six/seven motor and scooter cyclists and stopped before our house and started pelting stones to the doors and windows. Behind the motorists there were about 8/10 people with tins of petrol and some chemical which they started throwing inside the broken windows and door. Both the house Nos.A-1/21 and A-1/20 belonging to my elder brother S. Gurmukh Singh were set on fire. God knows what kind of Chemical they used and it took a few seconds the whole houses were inflames.

3.                  The mob mostly from Mohdpur Village (which we came to know afterwards) started looting the house and carried away whatever they could lay their hands upon. Incidentally my four children one son, one daughter, one daughter-in-law and one son-in-law are residing in USA and they had dumped all their belonging in my house and these people mercilessly carried away. Most strange thing that none of the police stations, or the fire brigade office attended to our calls even our relatives and friends and neighbours who tried to contact fire brigade after seeing our fire could not get them.

4.                  It was a well planned attack and they did not spare our three cars parked in the house. Most of the precious articles were carried by them and the heavy goods were burnt by throwing them on the burning cars.

5.                Luckily we the entire family of twelve persons alongwith two small servants slipped to our neighbours’ house from the back door who kept us for nine days.\

6.        Police never came to save us from the mob.
